美国俚语：

1.Couch potato 一有时间就坐在沙发上看电视的人

Couch potato，直译为沙发土豆，指的是那些拿着遥控器，蜷在沙发上，跟着电视节目转的人，什么事都不干，只会在沙发上看电视，描述了电视对人们生活方式的影响，这个词最早诞生在美国。指将大部分业余时间用来躺在床上睡觉、或者抱着电视机守上十来个小时的人。“土豆”一词有双重含义，一是指终日在沙发上看电视的人就像“种在沙发前的土豆”一样不动，另一是指这类人一般总在看电视的同时不停地吃炸土豆片。这种生活习惯使人像土豆一样胖胖圆圆，沙发土豆因此得名。

【例句】

jack 在这里是代称一类人，因为jack本身就具有“男人”的含义。jack并不仅仅是一个人名，它还具有其他含义：n.插座，千斤顶，男人；vt.抬起，提醒，扛举，增加，提高，放弃；a.雄的。整句话的意思就是：某些博而不精的人。

4.kick ass 了不起

kick ass的直译为打屁股，但俚语中有了不起；推动；鞭策的含义。

电影《海扁王》的英文命就叫kick ass

5.turkey(火鸡)，shrimp(虾)和crab(螃蟹)

这三个词的直译分别是火鸡、虾和螃蟹，然而在俚语中，turkey就用来形容那种愚蠢无用的人，shrimp常被用于指代那些个子矮小的人或无足轻重的小人物，而crab因为长相丑陋凶恶，常被用来指那些性格暴躁、脾气很坏的人。

8.It takes two to tango 一个巴掌拍不响

It takes two to tango直译是两个人在跳探戈，而它的真实含义却是一个巴掌拍不响。（It takes two to ）tango其实是取了tangle的谐音，而整个短语“It takes two to tango”实质上由英国俗语“It takes two to make a quarrel”（一个巴掌拍不响）发挥创造而来。

【例句】

A conflict is not the fault of just one person or the other； they are often both to blame， because it takes two to tango.
